COME RALLY AROUND THE FLAG

The movement which has swept through the NFL in refusing to stand and show respect for the American flag is misguided at best and subversive at worst. These highly paid NFL players have become wealthy because of the American free enterprise system. Yet like spoiled children, these foolish players flaunt visceral hatred toward the very nation and American values, which have given these miscreants such abundance.

NFL players refusal to stand and salute Old Glory not only disrespects the American republic, American traditions, and American values but more profoundly demonstrates shameful contempt for the underpaid brave soldiers of the armed services and law enforcement. More searching is these pampered overpaid players manifesting outrageous contempt for the underpaid members of the armed services.

Perhaps, the Johnny Cash song, “ This Ragged Old Flag”  most succinctly captures the American feeling towards our national symbol in Old Glory.

Consider the sublime feeling put to pen by Minna Irving.

“A nation thrills, a nation bleeds,

A nation follows where it leads,

And every man is proud to yield

His life upon a crimson field

For Betsy’s battle flag.”

(Minna Irving)

These overpaid spoiled NFL players cannot hold a candle to the United States Marines who raised the American republic’s flag after the hard-won ground on Iwo Jima.

It is the symbol of the Marines raising the flag over Iwo Jima which American citizens should revere and hold sacred not the foolish ignorance of certain NFL players lest we forget the sacrifice of these American heroes.

Consider the testimony of marine Hamilton, a survivor of Iwo Jima.

Yet, these selfish self-absorbed NFL players disregard the sacrifice and patriotism of men like Hamilton. How dare these overpaid self-centered and pampered players.Francis Scott Key thought of a better class of Americans. Americans Mr. Key watched dying for the promise of the young American republic. Perhaps, these contemptuous NFL players should go to Canada or other nations to play football-dare say, most Americans no longer want them playing for the NFL or living in America,

Defense Of Fort McHenry (Stars And Stripes Forever) – Poem by Francis Scott Key

O! say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,

What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,

O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there –

O! say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,

Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze o’er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,

In full glory reflected now shines on the stream –

‘Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave

O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havock of war and the battle’s confusion

A home and a country should leave us no more?

Their blood has wash’d out their foul foot-steps’ pollution,

No refuge could save the hireling and slave,

From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave;

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever when freemen shall stand

Between their lov’d home, and the war’s desolation,

Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land

Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto – ‘In God is our trust! ‘

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Francis Scott Key

Consider a real American and NFL player, a player worthy of the brave soldiers who fought and died for the American ideal and liberty. Former army ranger Alejandro Villanueva of the Pittsburgh Steelers defied his coach and the spoiled NFL protesters as a true American hero and patriot. Watch as this decorated veteran stand up for America.

America saluted Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva by buying his jersey and supporting the ranger.

Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva act was an implicit salute to the flag was a call to all Americans to “ Rally Round the Flag”.

These protesting NFL players are just simply wrong. Let them quietly donate their wealth to worthy causes but as President Trump has correctly and appropriately called upon these self-centered spoiled players to cease disrespecting American patriots and sullying our national flag. Come Rally Round the Flag!
